You are not alone. In our society, it is so common to constantly feel tired. The idea of constantly having something to do, somewhere to be, and a never-ending list to complete can even be seen as a badge of honor at times. This can be magnified for parents, constantly meeting others needs with little time to rest. In those moments of feeling overwhelmed and tired, I'm here to challenge you to take a few minutes to yourself to rest, whatever that looks like to you. What do your mind and body need more of in this moment? If you're like me, the thought of resting when there is so much to do seems like the worst idea imaginable. As part of my yoga teacher training, we were challenged to complete a 10-day meditation challenge. That challenge changed my life. Taking those few minutes every morning changed the course of my days. I did the same tasks, but with more joy and less irritation. My productivity did not suffer throughout the day, proving that taking time for myself is not selfish. That shift changed my mindset from "when I have time" to "now is the time" to care for myself. AND THAT IS HUGE! So, now I am challenging you to take 10-minutes in the morning when you wake up or in the evening before bed that is just for you. Maybe you take a note from Hal Elrod's Miracle Morning and choose one or more of the following: silence, affirmations, visualization, exercise, read, or scribe. Maybe you find something else that fills your heart and helps your mind and soul to rest and start slowly adding it into your day, a few minutes at a time. You will be shocked at the difference those few minutes can make! Here is a brief meditation to try out.
